The Course of the Railway, Trones Wood, October 2015
The railway was reinstated after the armistice, the course as before cut in on one side, and embanked on the other. Shell craters, many of them fifteen feet or more across, still mark its passage through the regrown trees. The canopy in Trones is notably dense, and even on a late summer's afternoon the wood has an atmosphere of oppressive gloom.
